Why we recommend booking an insurance with us directly
Many travelers might book an insurance with their travel agent. What they often do not realise, is that in case of an incident they still have to advance the funds for the damage caused to then seek a refund from their insurance afterwards. Securing the refund can be a lengthy process and usually involves a lot of paperwork and jumping through hoops, especially with bigger insurance companies. Though we are very happy to assist you in this process and have done so many times in the past, we still have seen that it can be a matter of distress for our travelers. We want you to have a stress and worry free holiday, and think that booking an insurance with us directly will save you a lot of time and worries. If there is a matter that arises you will be dealing with us directly, not hanging in phone lines. And you will only ever have to worry about the excess that you have booked with your insurance option at max - no other advances needed. If you have already booked an insurance with somebody else, you can always check whether they will allow you to cancel it free of cost, which sometimes is the case.
Basic Risk Taker insurance is included in all rates and means that you are covered up to two million dollars liability.
Excess: This amount will be charged to your credit card in the event of any damage to the car. If the cost of the damage is lower than the excess, the difference will be refunded to you once the claim has been processed. If you have an accident, the excess amount must be paid regardless of who is at fault.
Bond: This amount will be held on your credit card when you pick up your car. Please note - debit cards cannot be used for the bond if they do not have the hirers name on the Card.
The indemnities referred to above shall not apply when the damage, injury or loss arises when:
a) The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance that affects his or her ability to drive the Vehicle
b) The vehicle is in an unsafe or unroadworthy condition that arose during the course of the hire and caused or contributed to the damage or loss, and the hirer or driver was aware or ought to have been aware of the unsafe or unroadworthy condition of the Vehicle.
c) The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest
d) The hirer is not a body corporate or department of the state and the vehicle is driven by any person not named in clause 3 of the agreement
e) The vehicle is driven by any person who, at the time he or she drives the vehicle, is disqualified from holding, or has never held a driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle;
f) The vehicle is wilfully or recklessly damaged by the Hirer, any person named in clause 3 of the Rental Agreement or any other person driving the vehicle under the authority of the hirer;
g) The vehicle is lost or stolen as a result of wilful or reckless behaviour of the Hirer or any such person;
h) Dangerous or careless driving: If the driver is issued with an infringement or charged with an offence or there is any evidence of dangerous or careless driving, the hirers liability is increased to 10,000. This also includes operating the vehicle on the incorrect side of the road.
i) The vehicle is operated on any of the following roads: BALL HUT ROAD (MTCOOK), SKIPPERS ROAD (QUEENSTOWN), or any beach whatsoever.
j) Misuse and/or damage to any accessories hired with Scotties are not covered by insurance.
k) In cases of single vehicle accidents (i.e. with no other vehicle involoved) Risk Taker excess liability can increase to $5000.
l) Higher excess levels apply for learner licence holders. Please enquire with us directly.
m) Custom insurance fees may apply to selected high end vehicles, trucks and large vans. Please enquire with us directly.
If the rental agreement terms and conditions are breached your insurance may be void. Loss of Earnings charges may apply to accident repairs.
